Welcome to the Website about Dover, New Hampshire!
Hello friends, we are residents of the wonderful town of Dover, New Hampshire, and we run this site to share with you the latest news, events, and interesting facts about our favorite corner of America. More than just a dot on a map, Dover is a place with a rich history, cozy streets, picturesque nature, and, of course, wonderful people.
Our Town: a Bit of History
Dover is one of the oldest towns not only in New Hampshire but in the entire country. The first European settlers arrived here in 1623, making it the oldest permanent settlement in the state. Once salt was mined here, mills were built, and fishermen fished, but today Dover is a cozy town with a developed infrastructure and a real American soul.
Downtown is dotted with old buildings reminiscent of our industrial history. Once home to textile mills that made Dover an important industrial center in the 19th century. Today, these historic buildings are home to modern businesses, restaurants, and even breweries.

- The New Hampshire Children’s Museum is adored by families with children.
- The Cochecho River, along which you can stroll and enjoy nature.
- Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is known for its excellence in medicine.
We also have great transportation. The COAST bus system and Amtrak Downeaster trains, so it’s quick and easy to get to Boston.
What makes our city so special? It’s not only the history but the people who make it so. Dover is a place that strikes a balance between the measured small town life and the opportunities afforded by proximity to major centers. We are only 20 minutes from Portsmouth and an hour from Boston, yet we retain the coziness and atmosphere of a small American town.
Our streets are full of life with seasonal fairs, farmers markets and town festivals. In the summer, residents and visitors enjoy strolling along the scenic waterfront, and in the winter they gather at the downtown skating rink.
Love an active lifestyle? Biking and hiking trails along the Cochecho River are the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle. And if you’re a foodie, Dover has plenty of cozy cafes and restaurants with local cuisine.
