Dover, New Hampshire, is rich in history and picturesque scenery. It is also a true cultural center that has produced talented athletes, musicians, and artists worldwide. From Olympic champions to famous performers, our city can be proud of its outstanding personalities!

Music that Resounds

Dover has nurtured talented musicians who have left their mark on the music industry. For example, Spencer Albee is a renowned singer, songwriter, and producer who is actively creating and performing. Another bright representative of the music world is Nelson Bragg, a renowned vocalist, percussionist and songwriter. His work with well-known bands has added a unique twist to the modern sound of pop music.

But perhaps the most iconic figure is Tommy Makem, the legendary Irish folk musician. His work has become an integral part of music culture, and the band The Makem Brothers, formed with his sons, still inspires fans around the world.

And if we look back in time, we find Nellie Brown Mitchell, a renowned concert singer and music educator. In her time, she was one of Boston’s most beloved opera performers and contributed greatly to the vocal arts.

And when it comes to more spectator sports, one can’t help but think of Dangerous Danny Davis, a wrestler and professional wrestling referee. His career in the ring has captured the attention of millions of viewers.

Fans of painting are probably familiar with Frank M. Raines. He was a talented painter and master of landscapes who not only created but also taught art. His work still inspires fans of classical painting today.

 

Dover in Pop Culture

In addition to famous personalities, Dover has also left a mark in the movie industry. For example, the city was the setting for the Hallmark Channel movie Christmas Incorporated.

But perhaps most surprisingly, it was in Dover that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise was born! 

In 1984, Mirage Studios was founded here, where Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created these iconic characters. Who would have thought that our town was where the famous Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael were born?
