And if you want to end the evening on a bright note, the local bars and music venues offer a great selection of cocktails and live entertainment.
Entertainment for the whole family
The New Hampshire Children’s Museum downtown is an explorer’s paradise! Two floors of exciting, interactive exhibits ranging from archaeological digs to space shuttle controls. In addition, there are exciting events throughout the year, including New Year’s Eve parties, Mardi Gras, and the museum’s birthday.
But it’s not just the museum that offers fun for kids! Dover has swimming pools, a skate park, playgrounds, basketball courts, and the Rotary Arts Pavilion, which hosts outdoor concerts in the summer.
Nature and outdoor activities
Love the outdoors? Then you should hit the river trail along the Cocheco River or climb the observation tower on Harrison Hill for panoramic views of the city. Whether kayaking, canoeing, or relaxing by Willand Pond, there’s always something for outdoor enthusiasts.
History and culture
Dover is one of New Hampshire’s oldest towns, founded as early as 1623. Its rich history is evident at every turn! Take a stroll through downtown and admire the architecture of past centuries, and check out the historic mills that are now home to modern businesses and artists.
And if you want something out of the ordinary, head to the Woodman Institute Museum. Here you can see exhibits you won’t find anywhere else: a 10-foot polar bear, armor and swords, Native American artifacts, New Hampshire’s last cougar, and even Abraham Lincoln’s saddle!
Proximity to other attractions
Dover is the perfect starting point for traveling around the region. Just an hour’s drive, and you’re in Boston, Portland, the White Mountains, or picturesque Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s easy to organize a vacation for any season: a fall tour through the north woods, ski trips in winter, or spring hikes.
Convenient transportation
